In this photo Lenny Kravitz can be seen playing his signature Gibson Flying V. According to: 'Kravitz also plays a variety of Gibson ES-335s to 355s and ES-5s. But he is most closely associated with the Gibson Flying V, and got his own Gibson Flying V signature in 2002 (albeit a very limited edition of only 125).
The Kravitz is essentially a 1967 historic reissue with a black and gold flake finish, and the pickguard and truss rod cover were gold mirror. 'He said of his ’67-styled signature, 'The neck size is the dimension that I like. The paint, the hardware, the finish, the sound, the pickup, the weight - that's basically it.' Gibson writes in 'Ah, you’ve gotta love a killer guitar dropped into the middle of a massive sporting event. Prior to taking the stage at the Superbowl half-time performance with Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz posted a picture to his social media accounts of himself holding a black Gibson Les Paul with the caption 'The guitar I'm playing tonight is the first of Gibson's 59 Black Over Flame Top series. Thank You @gibsonguitar. LK' Gibson writes about how this guitar came to be by writing 'what is this guitar based on?

Well, the story goes that once upon a time - a time called 1959 - a guitarist wanted a ‘Black Beauty’ Les Paul but he couldn’t stump up quite enough cash. So instead he had a 1959 Les Paul Standard painted black by Gibson. On close inspection the subtlest hints of the flamed maple underneath the black are visible. Joe Bonamassa has toured with this particular guitar.
And now Lenny Kravitz has rocked the Superbowl with a replica of it.' Used on 'Let love rule', according to this interview for: 'I love the guitar tone on your early albums, like Let Love Rule and Are You Gonna Go My Way. What was your setup in the studio on those records? — Grayson Malloy On Let Love Rule, it was primarily a tweed Fender Deluxe cranked to 10. When you turn that amp all the way up, it compresses itself and makes this beautiful tone. That’s pretty much the dirty sound on the album.
I think I also had a Fender Twin Reverb for the cleaner stuff. The guitar, for the most part, was actually an Epiphone Sorrento.'
It's hardly the funk album that was promised, and I find that disappointing. I'm not saying there is nothing funky about it, there is, as there has always been with Lenny's music. I was just hoping that when Lenny hyped a funk ALBUM, he would go all out, but, IMO, he did not. Instead, to my ears, the lp is similar to all his albums in that it dabbles in rock, pop, soul, and yes, funk. That said, not a bad album, definitely several really nice tunes on it.
I will probably still buy it, so, decent LP. Yeah it's a really good album. Nothing groundbreaking or very deep, just a solid rock/funk album. I didn't think much of 'Rock Star City Life' when I first heard it but after listening to it several times, that would be a hit single, it's really catchy and really rockin'.
'I Can't Be Without You' would also make a great single. The title track is also very good. It gets pretty corny towards the end though. 'The Faith Of A Child' is so corny & cheesy that almost can't bare to listen to it. Hated that song. The Drake duet. I've heard this guy's name a million times but this is the first time I actually hear him rap and fail to see what this guy adds to the track.
The song is kinda cool but never really goes anywhere and the Drake part adds nothing. Lame of Lenny to duet with this guy but can't say I'm surprised. I also think the lead single, 'Stand' is pretty corny, but also a well crafted pop song. The 'Boongie Drop' song with Jay-Z is actually really good and could also make a good single. Overall, it's a really good album that just jams for the first 12 or so tracks before it hits some weak spots.
Worth buying. I downloaded the leaked album but have already pre-ordered the real thing.
I think 'It is time for a Love Revolution' was a much better album in my opinion. I thought the Love Revolution album was really good. Edited 8/21/11 10:46am Edited 8/21/11 11:03am -Reply #23 posted 08/21/11 11:29am.
